대우 파업노동자들에 대한 탄압을 중단하라!

김대중 대통령께,
APWSL(아시아태평양노동자연대) 일본위원회는 노동조합과 그 지역의
일반노동자대중의 국제연대를 위해 일하는 개인 활동가들로 구성된 단체이다.
우리는 노동자들의 권리와 기본적 인권을 증진시키기 위해 많은 진보적 노동조합과
시민단체들과 협력하고 있다.
우리는 대우 회사의 파업노동자들에게 가하는 끔찍한 진압에 놀라고 있다.
노동조합과 노동자들은 회사의 불공정한 해고에 반대하며 싸우고 있다. 노동자들의
요구는 매우 합당하고 많은 사람들로부터 지지받고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고,
당신의 정부는 파업을 박살내기 위해 폭력을 가해 공권력을 투입했다. 경찰들은
대우 노동자들과 그들의 가족은 물론이고, 그 지역에 있는 일반 시민들과 학생,
일반 노동자들에게까지 물리적 공격을 가했다.
2000년에 노벨평화상을 수상한 당신이 그런 잔학한 행위를 허락했다는 것이
우리로서는 믿어지지 않는다.
경찰에 의해 자행된 폭력은 우리에게 20여년 전에 전두환에 의해 일어났던
광주사태를 상기시킨다. 당신은 그 기간동안 진압에 의해 희생된 자들중에 한
사람이었고, 많은 이들이 당신과 당신 조국의 민주화운동을 지지하는 행동에
참여했었다. 당신의 정권하에 또다시 우리가 그런 종류의 진압을 본다는 것은
유감스러운 일이다.
우리는 당신이 대우노동자들에 대한 탄압을 즉시 중단하길 요청한다.

Stop Repression On Striking Workers at Daewoo Company!

President Kim Dae-jung,
APWSL (Asia Pacific Workers' Solidarity Links) Japan is a group of trade
unions and individuals committed to international solidarity of grassroots
workers in the region. We are cooperating with a lot of progressive trade
unions and citizens' groups in order to promote workers' rights and human
rights.
We are surprised at the cruel repression against striking workers at Daewoo
Company. The trade union and workers have been fighting against unfair
dismissal by the company. Their demands are quite reasonable and supported by
many people. Nevertheless, your government sent the police force to crash the
strike violently. The police physically attacked workers and their family
members as well as citizens, students and workers in the region.
It is incredible for us that you, the winner of Novel Peace Prize of 2000,
should allow such cruelty.
The violence used by the police reminds us of the Gwangju disturbance caused
by Chun Doo Wan more than twenty years ago. You were one of the victims of
the repression during that period and many of us participated actions to
support you and the democratic movement in your country. It is a pity that we
see this kind of repression again under your government.
We hope you to stop the repression against Daewoo workers immediately.
